A Pinsonfork teenager remains in custody at the Pike County Detention Center for allegedly hitting a woman with his car in the parking lot of WalMart in Goody.
Bradley L. Smith, 18, has been charged with first offense driving under the influence with aggravating circumstances and assault second degree.
Smith was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer when he struck 35-year-old Kelly Smith of Hardy in front of the entrance of the store and dragged her through the parking lot, according to the citation issued in the case.
Trooper Donald White said he was called to the store to investigate the incident, and noticed the suspect had red, watery, bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on his feet and having balance problems.
Smith failed a field sobriety test and appeared to be unsteady on his feet, according to the trooper.
Smith admitted to the trooper that he had smoked marijuana, the citation said. The results of his blood and urine test are pending.
Kelly Smith was flown to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, where she remained a patient Tuesday. She suffered multiple injuries including a broken neck and pelvis, a hurt shoulder and extensive abrasions.
Smith, the mother of two girls and the wife of Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Pastor Mike Smith, has a positive attitude about her recovery and is remaining strong spiritually.
On Monday during an arraignment before Pike County District Judge Kelsey E. Friend Jr., Smith pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on a full cash $15,000 bond.
He remains lodged in the Pike County Detention Center.
