80-year-old Kermit man arraigned for drug trafficking charges

WILLIAMSON – An 80-year-old Kermit man was arraigned in Mingo County Circuit Court Wednesday on six drug charges contained in his January grand jury indictment.

Chief Judge Michael Thornsbury set his bond for Raymond Kenneth Brewer at $100,000 with electronic home confinement as a condition of bond. Brewer was later remanded to Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden in lieu of bond.

He was represented by Williamson Attorney M. Timothy Koontz. Mingo County Prosecuting Attorney C. Michael Sparks appeared for the state, which unsealed Brewer’s indictment upon his arraignment.

Brewer is charged with two counts delivery of a Schedule IV controlled substance (alprazolam; two counts delivery of a Schedule III controlled substance (hydrocodone); one count of possessing a Schedule III controlled substance (hydrocodone) with intent to deliver, and one count of possessing a Schedule IV controlled substance (alprazolam) with intent to deliver.

Thornsbury set April 7 as the trial date for Brewer.

Meanwhile, Dewey Glen Wolford, 49, Gilbert, one of the defendants arraigned Monday on three drug charges, has been released on $85,000 bond with the usual conditions connected with posting bond. David Foley is his legal counsel.
