Pike man dies in ATV wreck

MCANDREWS, Ky. — A McAndrews, Ky., man was killed in an all terrain vehicle accident over the weekend.

According to Kentucky State Police, Joseph V. Smith, 31, of Pinsonfork, died when the ATV he was operating left the roadway and went over an enbankment and into a ditch. Post 9 received a call of a four-wheeler accident at ap-proximately 6:07 p.m. September 13.

KSP Trooper Hoyt Smith responded, along with Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts and Deputy Coro-ner Mike Hall, both of whom pronounced Smith dead at the scene.

There were no other injuries and the victim’s family members were notified.

Also assisting Trooper Smith was Appalachian First Response Ambulance Ser-vice and members of the Upper Pond Creek Volunteer Fire Depart-ment.

The accident is still under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
