WAYNE, W.Va. (AP) — Authorities have identified three family members killed in a Labor Day auto accident.
Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Chris Hunt said Tuesday that 38-year-old James Ailiff and 2-year-old James Ailiff Jr. of Belfry, Ky., died in the two-vehicle crash on U.S. 52 about 2 miles south of Fort Gay. Also killed was 71-year-old Williamson resident Barbara Ailiff.
Authorities say James Ailiff's wife and 3-year-old daughter survived. So did a Kentucky man and his estranged wife from Fort Gay and their two children who were riding in a pickup truck that struck the Ailiff's vehicle. Hunt says a preliminary investigation shows the pickup skidded across the center line.
Hunt said the survivors remain hospitalized, but are expected to live.
As of presstime, funeral arrangements for the Aliff family had not been completed, according to Michael Hall with the R.E. Rogers Funeral Home in Belfry. However, details are expected to be completed this afternoon.
