The Belfry Volunteer Fire Department was able to prevent major damage to a business at Goody Wednesday morning.
Fire Chief Belfry Nee Jackson said the department received a call at approximately 7:30 about a fire at Auto Pro, a car repair shop located near the Wal-Mart on U.S. 119.
“The fire was in the office section of the building,” Jackson said. “When we arrived on the scene, there was smoke coming from the building, but no flames were visible.”
Fire department officials determined the fire to be electrical in nature, and said it was contained to the office area of the business. The office sustained heavy smoke and heat damage, Jackson said.
“Three firefighters put on their self-contained breathing apparatus and entered the building,” Jackson said. “The fire was extinguished within five minutes.”
The office area was closed off well, and the lack of air helped contain the fire, he added.
Nine Belfry officers and one firefighter from the Big Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call with three pumpers and a ladder truck.
