Homer Ray Carey, 88, of North Matewan, W.Va., passed away Friday August 28, 2009, at the South Williamson ARH Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.

Carey was born December 3, 1920, to the late Reaford and Okey Varney Carey.

In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by daughters Leslie Carey; Patricia Carey; and son Donald Carey.

In addition to being a loving husband, grandfather, friend, and neighbor, Homer was retired, having worked as a coal miner. He was a member of the local UMWA #1440 and of the Matewan United Methodist Church.

He leaves to honor his loving memory and mourn his passing his loving wife Joyce Kiser Carey of North Matewan, W.Va.; grandchildren Angie Fields, Mike Dudley, Justin Gooslin, Alicia Turner, Whitney Harmon, great grandchildren Baillie Dudley, Sydney Dudley and Riley Harmon.

Homer is also survived by special dog and companion Amber.

Honoring Services will be conducted Monday, August 31, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Chambers Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Ron Accord of Matewan United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Buskirk Cemetery at Buskirk, Ky.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will begin receiving friends on Sunday, August 30, 2009, at the chapel, from 6 to 9 p.m.
