Steve “Philbilly” Steinbrecher’s trial was continued yesterday, Tuesday Aug. 4, after his lawyer, James Lee, didn’t show up for the preliminary.

Steinbrecher, of Kermit, charged with soliciting a minor via computer, was denied a public defender and chose not to continue with the preliminary before Mingo County Magistrate Pam Newsome without counsel.

According to police, Steve Steinbrecher, 38, was instant messaging a 17-year-old girl on the Internet Web-site MySpace between the date of July 10 though July 21. Officials stated in the criminal complaint that he attempted to seduce and lure the victim fully aware of her age.

Further investigation into Steinbrecher’s MySpace website revealed some shocking information, including his occupation which is a Mingo County School bus driver. The Web-site explained that he has been driving a school bus since April 20, 2007 for Ron Brewer on the old road of 12 pole in Dingess. Steinbrecher also stated he hoped to become a full-time bus driver by the fall.

Ironic quotes could be find throughout the defendants description of himself including, “I do love being around people and love knowing that people trust me with their children on a regular basis.”

“I could never take that lightly,” he says.

He also states he is a Youth Minister for Jenny’s Creek Gospel Church.

Steinbrecher states on Myspace that he is very involved with Kermit Middle School, Tug Valley High School and Lenore Middle School and serves as a PA announcer for local high school and middle school athletics.

Steinbrecher preliminary trail will be set at a later date and he remains in jail on a $100,000 bond.

Trooper Moore is the investigating officer on the case.
