At a special meeting of the Matewan Town Council, park renovations were discussed for the Matewan Park and Playground on Rt. 44 near Matewan High School. The council discussed paving the tennis courts, repairing the chain link fences in the park, renovating the basketball courts, and the addition of playground equipment.
The renovations to the volleyball court of the park have been completed but Mayor Sheila Kessler suggested the council inspect the court to ensure its completion or see if further work needed to be done.
The council intends to replace the existing basketball goals with new ones that will be better for long-term use as well as repairing the court itself. Plans also include adding a carport to the site.
The council discussed the hiring of a new employee for the Matewan Water Department. In order to hire the new employee within the next 2 weeks, the council approved the motion of allowing Mayor Kessler along with the Utility Board to hire the employee.
Bids for flood projects were on the Town Council agenda but were tabled.
The Matewan Town Council meets regularly on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month at the Matewan Town Hall.
