Mingo County Schools in conjunction with Mingo County Head Start and their collaborative community partners are providing free, comprehensive health examinations for all children entering pre-Kindergarten, head start and Kindergarten — all students from 3-5 years of age. These health fairs will be held at Lenore K-8 on Aug. 11 and Burch High School on Aug. 13, both from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Coal Mac will be donating prizes to be given to parents, and gift bags will be given to children. Fun activities and inflatables will be held and Ronald McDonald will make an appearance at the Lenore site. Nursing students from Pikeville college will attend both health fairs.

Medical personnel will be on site to provide physicals and immunizations, while appropriately trained professionals will be on site to provide dental, hearing, speech, vision, and language screenings. This health fair is in response to the Governor's health initiative.  All students need to attend prior to entering school, you may choose which day to attend.

Community Partners include: Appalachian Regional Hospital, Dr. Santiago, Dr. Dizon, nurse practitioner Debbie Hatfield, Health Valley (Dr. Kardos) Dr. Jason Long, Dr. Josh Leonard; Mingo County Department of Health and Human Resources, Mingo County Health Department, WIC, LINK Child Services, Mingo County Board of Education and Coalfield Community Action Partnership Head Start.
