CHARLESTON (AP) — West Virginia's unemployment rate has risen for several months but at least one sector is still looking for new workers.

Rod Myers with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons says the agency has hired 49 employees at the federal prison in Hazelton this year. As of Friday, the Preston County prison had 15 vacancies.

Nearly 600 workers will be needed when new facilities open in McDowell and Preston counties in the coming year.

Myers says federal correctional jobs aren't only for correctional officers. He says the jobs also include health services, human resources, accounting, construction, food service and religious services.
