CHARLESTON (AP) — A Charleston teenager has been sentenced to life in prison for a November 2008 shooting in which a pregnant woman’s unborn child died.

Sixteen-year-old Kelly J. Chapman won’t be eligible for parole on the first-degree murder conviction because Kanawha County Circuit Judge Duke Bloom’s sentence Tuesday came with no recommendation of mercy.

Bloom also gave Chapman an additional 3-to-15 years for attempted murder in the wounding of Nastasha Folden.

Folden, who was five months pregnant, was confronted outside a convenience store in the city’s East End over another shooting involving Chapman’s sister.

Chapman was charged under a 2005 state law that treats a pregnant woman and her unborn baby as separate victims.
