BLUEFIELD (AP) — An official says work on the $16.2 million King Coal Highway bridge in Bluefield is on track to finish on schedule in October.

King Coal Highway Executive Director Mike Mitchem says the bridge may look finished, but the contractor is still pouring concrete. While the northbound deck is nearly finished, Mitchem says work just started on the southbound portion of the bridge.

The bridge will connect with the K.A. Ammar Interchange, but the highway itself is far from completion.

When finished, the highway is expected to stretch through Mingo, Wayne, Wyoming, McDowell and Mercer counties.
