Delegate Clif Moore says he plans to block the Ghent toll plaza with his car on Aug. 1, the day the hikes take effect.
The McDowell County Democrat made the pledge during the run-up to Wednesday’s vote on the increases. He said Thursday his plans haven’t changed.
The turnpike’s governing board voted to raise tolls on passenger cars from $1.25 to $2 and on large trucks from $4.25 to $6.75. It also offered discounts to motorists who buy a West Virginia E-Z Pass.
Moore says the board ignored public opposition to the increases and didn’t look hard enough for alternatives.
