A traffic stop conducted by the West Virginia State Police landed one local doctor in Magistrate Court and his vehicle being searched.

Dr. Brian McDevitt, of Man, was pulled over on Monday when he ran a stop sign and almost slammed into the vehicle in front of him, according to state police reports.

Trooper B.R. Moore, investigating officer, said that the doctor was acting nervous like he was trying to conceal something.

McDevitt was transported to Southwestern Regional Jail and later arraigned by Magistrate Dee Sidebottom. Hewas released on a personal recognance bond

Tuesday, troopers obtained a warrant to search McDevitt’s vehicle, which was towed to Duba’s Tow Company the night before. During the search, they recovered three trash bags of prescription pill bottles filled with phentermine, which is the generic form of Adipex-P — a scheduled four controlled substance.

Troopers also recovered $13,631 in U.S. currency and mutliple checks.

Trooper Mike Smith with BCI, said this is the beginning of a long investigation. Adding, that he would be speaking with the prosector, as well as, the licensing board of osteopathic medicine to determine the next step in the case.

Smith said that this will be handled as a state case and not a federal case.

As of now, traffic charges and other forefeitures are pending.

Trooper B.H. Kuhn assisted in traffic charges. Sgt. J.C. Dotson and Cpl. S.T. Harper assisted with the search of the vehicle.
