Train hits car in Kermit

The Mingo County Sheriffs Department investigated an incident in Kermit involving a train and vehicle.

According to the Sheriffs Department at 6 a.m. Kimberly Burnett of Dunlow had parked he 2002 Mitsubishi Esclipes GS on the train track located under the bridge at Kermit Coal Co. To Burnette’s dismay, a train shortly came through the tunnel, striking her vehicle.

Luckily Burnette was not seated in the car during impact and no one received any injuries or required transport to the hospital.

The incident is still being investigated by the Mingo County Sheriffs Department. Investigating officers are Deputy B.A. Moore and C. Haynes.
