June 8-19

Summer school for the Pike County School District is planned at all high schools. A professional development/preparation day for school site coordinators and teachers will be held June 4 at the Central Office of Pike County Schools. Summer school instruction will be held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily.

June 10-14

Pastor Denny May of the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Holiness Church announced a revival, with  Bro. Bradley Rose of the Appalachian Teen Challenge acting as special guest speaker.  Services start at 6:30 p.m. nightly.  Everyone welcome.

June 13

An Energy Independence Day will be held by The JOBS Project from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Southern WV Community and Technical College. Community workshops are at 11 a.m., and 2 p.m. Activities will be provided for children by the Web of Life Ecology Center. There will be free food, music, and admittance to Williamson public pool. Belfry Freewill Baptist Church will host Studio Go! game show from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., with Pastor Buddy Kendrick announcing classes for nursery through high school. There will be a registration party, Thursday, June 11 at 6 p.m.

The East Williamson Baptist Church will be conducting a Vacation Bible School, Lifeway’s Boomerang Express — It All Comes Back to Jesus!, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Classes will be offered for children from 4-years-old through 12th grade. A kickoff party will be held Sunday, June 14, at 6 p.m.

June 15

The Williamson City Council will convene as a board of canvassers of the June 9 general election at 4:30 p.m. in the City Hall’s Council Chambers.

The Town of Matewan will have a special council meeting on Monday, June 15, at 5 p.m., at City Hall. A canvass of the June 9 election will take place at City Hall at 6 p.m.

June 16

The Fred Mahon VFW Post 8001 will hold a meeting at 6;30 p.m. at the Delbarton VFW Hall. All members and veterans are urged to attend.

The regular meeting of the Pike County Board of Education has been rescheduled for June 23.

The First United Methodist Church will conduct a food pantry from 9 a.m. Bring proof of identity and residence.

June 18

Wal-Mart will hold its annual golf scramble at Raven Rock Golf Course at Jenkins, Ky. Registration from 7:30-9 a.m., entry fee $300 per team. June 19

The Mingo County Democrat Women’s Club will be sponsoring their annual Summer Picnic at the West Williamson Pool House beginning at 6 p.m. All members and their families are invited to attend.

June 20

The Burch High School Booster Club and the Delbarton Kiwanis Club will co-sponsor a horse show at the Tug Valley Horse Park at 6 p.m. The event will feature 24 classes and to grand champions. The Victory Christian Center, Lenore, will conduct a revival with the Rev. Audie Murphy preaching. Services will be at noon, Sunday, June 21 and 7 p.m., Monday-Wednesday, June 22-24. Pastor Terry Blankenship welcomes all.

Logan Street First Baptist Church, Williamson, will conduct a vacation bible school from 9 a.m. to noon with classes from pre-school through high school. The Pike County Board of Education will conduct its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the C.H. Farley Administration Building, By-Pass Road, Pikeville.

The Williamson City Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall’s Council Chambers. The public is invited to attend.

June 27-28

Pike County RAM Expedition (Free medical, dental and vision services to the uninsured, underinsured, or those who cannot afford services) will be held at the Pike County Central High School (1901 US Hwy 119 N, 41501). The Kentucky Appalachian Craft Fair, a one-of-a-kind collection of hand-crafted arts and crafts, will be held at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset, Ky., on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

The Williamson High School Alumni Association will meet at 6 p.m. at The Brass Tree Restaurant to plan the 100th anniversary of the first graduation class (1910). The event will be for all graduates of WHS.

July 7

The Tug Valley Relay for Life will meet at the South Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital in the conference room at 5:30 p.m.
