LANCASTER, KY. (AP) — A former central Kentucky emergency services director has pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and other amended charges in a 2007 crash that killed one man and injured another.
Dwayne Nave, 45, also pleaded guilty Friday to fourth-degree assault and driving under the influence.
Kentucky State Police said Nave was intoxicated when he drove his official vehicle across the center line on U.S. 27 near Bryantsville in April 2007 and hit a pickup truck.
Willard L. Quinn, 43, was killed, and a passenger in his truck was injured.
A hospital test taken two hours after the crash showed Nave had a blood-alcohol content of .12 percent, above the state's .08 legal limit, when he collided with Quinn in April 2007.
Nave had been indicted on charges of murder, first-degree assault and driving under the influence with aggravating circumstances, meaning the death and injury that resulted from the crash.
Nave resigned from his county job in June 2007.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the plea deal includes a fine, 30-day suspension of Nave's driver's license and mandatory alcohol and drug education classes. He also faces up to five years in prison on the reckless homicide conviction and 12 months in jail on the fourth-degree assault. His sentencing is set for July 2.
Garrard County's insurance company paid $2.1 million to Quinn's estate in December to settle a lawsuit filed by Quinn's ex-wife.
