DELBARTON - The Delbarton Kiwanis Babe-Ruth League / Girls Softball park project will be the subject of a request for financial help at the Mingo County Commission meeting set for 9:00 Wednesday morning.

Delarton Kiwanis President William C. Totten says the park project, located on the site of the James Blevins football field. has been stalled by the recent flooding in the Delbarton area. However, the Kiwanis are attempting to move forward with the project, depsite having to now deal with the damage from the flooding.

“We had some momentum going on the project. The field had been seeded, grass was growing and now the field has several inches of sand in one area and the drains for the field are blocked by mud creating a problem since the flood as well.

Totten says that the Kiwanis will hold a special clean-up at the site on Thursday evening and that any community member wishing to help that evening would be welcomed and appreciated for their efforts.

Totten and Kiwanis members will also make a request tomorrow to the Mingo County Commission for help in funding the remaining parts of the project which need completed. Totten says the club needs approximately $100,000 to finish the park which will serve both the Delbarton Babe Ruth League and the Burch High softball program.

The Daily News will have more later this week on the project and on the Kiwanis request to the county commission.
