She was born March 7, 1923 at Webb, WV, the daughter of the late Silas and Sadie Bowens Mills. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Newman, and two brothers, Silas Mills Jr. and Ben Mills.
Gloria was a foster mother to many children for 50 years. She was of the Baptist faith and loved to sing for the Lord
Survivors include five sisters, Goldie (Troy) Canterbury of Williamson, WV, Joyce Evans of Chattaroy, WV, Patricia (Rufus ) Taylor of Taylorville, WV, Loretta (Larry) Maynard of Fort Gay, WV, and Regina (Roger) Ball of Chattaroy, WV; one brother, Troy (Barb) Chaffin of Ashville, NC, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Toler Freewill Baptist Church with Lonnie Francis officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memory Gardens, Maher, WV.
Visitations will be held after 6 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Toler Freewill Baptist Church with special services set for 7 p.m. with Roger Mullins in charge.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
