WILLIAMSON, W.Va. - Williamson Wolfpack Head Football Coach C. Douglas Ward released the ‘Pack’s 2009 football schedule this week.

The 2009 schedule has the ‘Pack dropping Tolsia, and Hurley, Va. while picking up Twin Valley, VA and Morgantown Trinity.

“We’ve made a couple of changes to the schedule that we think are in keeping with the best interests of our program.” said Ward. “Ever since I’ve been here I’ve said we need to continually work to put together a schedule that a 170 student Class A high school with a program average of 20 to 30 players annually should be playing. This schedule was developed in keeping with that philosophy and it’s the type of schedule we should be playing at this point in time.”

Ward said that while the schedule drops two larger clubs in Tolsia and Hurley in terms of numbers, fans shouldn’t think the Pack has dropped in competition level.

“As anyone who followed us last year knows, Gilbert, Big Creek and Valley-Fayette are three very tough programs to compete against and they will be a lot better this year. commented Ward. “Twin Valley developed a lot of talent last year that showed as there season progressed. Their record was very deceiving in terms of reflecting on their talent and skills. Fans won’t be disappointed with the competition levels.”

The schedule release included the release of several special dates for the Wolfpack home football games. The annual WHS Hall of Fame Game will be on the season home opener at Lefty Hamilton against Twin Valley.

The Massey Energy/Aim King Coal Bowl, which as became a major event of the Williamson’s annual King Coal Festival, will be held on September 18th against Gilbert.

WHS’s Homecoming game is slated for October 2nd against Hannan and the WHS Senior Night is on October 23rd.

A new event, The Williamson Athletic Committee Bowl will be held on OCtober 17th vs Morgantown Trinity. That game will also recognize Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) Day, a nation-wide celebration.
