HUNTINGTON (AP) — A cardiology fellow at Marshall University’s School of Medicine has been reinstated after successfully appealing a paid furlough that followed state and federal probes of a clinic where he worked.
Dr. John Theodore Tiano was reinstated after a committee of supervisors and peers heard arguments and reviewed the circumstances of his furlough. His fellowship is set to end on June 30.
Tiano was placed on furlough in April after the launch of a federal probe into the Justice Medical Complex in Kermit, where he worked from 2005 to 2007.
An affidavit filed by a federal special agent in U.S. District Court alleges that the clinic conspired with two pharmacies to defraud government assistance programs. No criminal charges have been filed yet.
