Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 9 reported Pikeville troopers were dispatched to a fatal collision on Ky. Route 197 at Elkhorn City, where they found the Mack truck driven by Christopher L. Maynard, 33 , of Warfield, had overturned. The press release says Maynard was traveling eastbound on Ky. 197, when it overturned on the roadway and slid approximately 76 feet before striking a 1994 Mitsubishi Endeavor driving by David Stewart of Elkhorn City.
Maynard was pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Deputy Coroner Denver Bailey.
Maynard was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The collision is still under investigation by Tpr.. Johnny Slone and Tpr.. Melissa Hampton.
Kentucky Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers Barry Coleman and Kevin Belcher also assisted in the investigation.
