PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Flooding victims in eastern Kentucky whose homes and belongings were ruined by mud and water are getting help from people they’ve never met.

The Churches of Christ Disaster relief in Nashville, Tenn., arrived Wednesday with a tractor-trailer full of cleaning supplies, blankets and food.

More than $88,000 worth of supplies were dropped off at the Belfry Fire Department in Pike County. WYMT-TV in Hazard reports the supplies were being distributed Thursday.

Rain storms late last week caused flooding and stirred up mudslides in several eastern Kentucky counties. A deadly tornado struck Garrard and Madison counties.

Officials say 19 Kentucky counties and six cities have declared a state of emergency. The state Division of Water says about 2,100 people were still without water service Thursday in four counties.
