The Kanawha County Commission voted to send a relief force to Mingo, one of the hardest hit areas of West Virginia. County Commission President Kent Carper and and commissioners Dave Hardy and Hoppy Shores says that emergency relief in Mingo is nearly exhausted from fighting the ongoing flooding that began on Friday. Many firefighters and paramedics have had little to no sleep since the flooding began.
County officials are planning to start collecting supplies to send to Mingo.
Carper told the Charleston Gazette he expects relief to be in Mingo County within a month or so.
“I’d say, before this is over, we’ll have 50 or 100 people down there,” he told the Gazette.
Carper is also asking other county officials and agencies to pitch in and help. An advance team is heading to Mingo to help plan the relief efforts and make sure that the resources don’t go to waste.
