Bulldogs, Tigers garner wins

WILLIAMSON - The Burch Bulldogs baseball team has been so close to getting a win this season.

Last night, after trailing the Williamson Wolfpack 10-4 late in the game, they tied the score at 12 by scoring seven runs in the seventh inning and allowed Williamson to score the game-winning run in the eighth frame.

The Bulldogs hit the ball well, getting 16 hits on the night.

Zac Runyon was the big hitter for the Bulldogs. He went 4-6 at the plate. A.D. Muncy hit 3-5, Jacob Stratton hit 2-4, Jordan Croaff hit 2-5 and Ryan Hatfield and Keith Hill each hit a single.

Runyon suffered the loss on the mound. He went six innings, giving up eight hits, striking out five and walking just three. Keith Hill started on the mound, going two innings, giving up six runs, striking out two and walking 10.

In the eighth inning, with the game tied at 12, the Bulldogs walked Tyler Hager, who went to second and third on pass balls. Runyon fanned Bobby Hurley to get the first out of the inning, but an error allowed Hager to score the winning run.

The Bulldogs committed 13 errors. There were 16 pass balls by the catcher and 12 runners were stranded in the game.

Matewan 11 Pike Central 2

MATEWAN - The Matewan Tigers baseball team got a big win last night over the visiting Pike Central (Ky.) Hawks, 11-2, at Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers scored nine runs in the second inning to go up 9-1. They then tacked on a run in the second and their final run in the third and held the Hawks to only a run in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Matewan played an errorless game, while Pike Central committed two.

Colton Copley pitched a complete game, giving up eight hits, walking three and striking out seven. Mike Daniels suffered the loss for P.C.

Copley was the big hitter for the Tigers. He belted a pair of singles. Corey Cisco, Josh Sammons, Cody Centers and Cody Gooslin each hit a single.

"We played pretty well," Matewan Coach Danny "B.B." Perkins said. "All the bounces fell our way and our defense played well. Colton Copley really pitched a good game. My young kids are coming along just fine."

The Tigers improve to 6-8 with the win and are scheduled to play Burch (0-10) at Tiger Stadium this evening at 5:30 p.m.
