CHARLESTON (AP) — West Virginia authorities are planning alcohol sales compliance checks during high school prom and graduation season to curb underage drinking.

The Alcohol Beverage Control Administration said Thursday checks will be conducted across the state in May and June at establishments that sell alcohol.

Other participating agencies are the Governor's Highway Safety Program and law enforcement.

The ABCA said the agencies want to send a message to those who sell or serve alcohol, and to encourage parents to talk to their children about underage drinking.
