Amid several rumors circulating throughout the county, one Mingo County assistant prosecutor resigned Wednes-day.
Prosecutor Michael Sparks said Jeff Simpkins turned in an oral resignation a couple of weeks ago and followed through with a written resignation Wednesday.
His official reason for leaving the office Sparks said is to spend more time to his “thriving civil practice.”
Sparks said Simpkins, who normally works within Magistrate Court, has not been involved with any court practices involving the prosecutor’s office this week.
The Daily News attempted to contact Simpkins but was told by his office he would not be available until a later date.
