A Williamson man’s was found guilty of first degree murder with a recommendation of mercy Tuesday.
A representative of Cabell County Circuit Court reported a jury went into chambers around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday morning to discuss the case of Charles Blevins on trial for murder and returned with the verdict around 12:30 p.m.
Blevins and McCarr, Ky. native Donnie Evans are charged with murdering Travis Huff in 2007. Huff was shot to death at a mobile home near Bar-boursville during what investigators believe was a drug transaction. Prose-cutor for the state was Cabell County Prosecutor Chris Chiles with David Perry representing the defendant.
The two are being tried separately with no word as to when Evans’ trial will commence.
Circuit Judge Alfred Ferguson presided at Blevins’ trial.
Director of Kentucky Regional Poison Center in Louisville, Ky. Henry Spiller testified last week that “given previous testimony on everything Blevins had to drink the night that Blevins admitted to shooting and killing Huff back in 2007, it’s likely that his actions were strongly impaired with his blood alcohol content somewhere between .386 and .55.”
During testimony in Cabell County Magistrate Court, Evans told police that “Blevins shot Huff during a cocaine transaction.” Blevins denied the accusation and told investigators he shot the victim after Huff stole $1,500.
