I would like very much to say thank you to Judge (Michael)Thornsbury and the Mingo County Commission for the fine job they are doing in our county.
The judge’s work program has been one of the best things to ever happen to this county. It is very nice when people come home for a vist and comment on how clean our roadways are and to hear people comment on the swing sets that were put in at the Bill Snodgrass Community Center at Varney, and the way the inmates helped with painting and keeping the grass cut on our play ground so the children have a place to play. In turn, we helped them by giving them a key to the building, so they have restrooms to use and water to drink when they work in our area.
We hear so much about other people helping in the county, but you see nothing they do. You do see laws being passed in Charleston, giving what some say the state school board the right to hold our county schools hostage. You hear of money coming to the county for years, but where has it been spent?
Why, when we get something good going in this county, do we have someone try to bring it down? Is it wanting control? If so, join the people of the county, because except for our schools we control our county now and we have a very good local government to work with.
