PIKE, Ky. — A woman released from jail Wednesday evening was arrested for stabbing a pregnant woman Thursday morning at Wal-Mart in Pikeville.

Police say 34-year-old Cynthia Mullins allegedly took a steak knife off the store shelf and stabbed 24-year-old Lora Beth Damron several times in the legs.

Police believe Mullins randomly selected Damron as she was shopping for groceries. Officials say witnesses told them that no words had been spoken between the two women. They are trying to determine why Mullins attacked a complete stranger.

“At this point in the investigation, it appears this was just a random, the victim was a random target,” Pikeville City Police Detec-tive Phillip Reed said. “Statements taken from the victim and Mullins lead us to believe the two did not know each other.”

Reed said Damron is nearly eight months pregnant and was taken to UK Medical Center in Lexington, Ky. Her four-year-old daughter was with her when she was attacked. Police say she was unharmed. Reed told the Daily News he spoke with a family member Friday morning and was told Damron and her unborn child are fine and could come home today.

Reed said Mullins was on probation for stabbing ano-ther woman in 2005. He said she was released from jail Wednesday for unrelated terroristic threatening charges involving her mother.

Reed said a man also shopping at the department store pulled Mullins away from Damron and held her until officers arrived on-scene.

All the surveillance videos were taken from Wal-Mart, Reed stated, to track Mullins’ path throughout the store before the alleged attack and to see if the stabbing is on tape.

Mullins is currently lod-ged at the Pike County Detention center with no bond.
