“I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth in me should not abide in darkness.” John 12:46
We are not often in a situation where we are in complete darkness. If we are outside after dark, there is usually some light, either from the moon, stars, street lights or houses. If we are in a situation where there is total darkness, we may get an eerie feeling. It is difficult to keep our perspective and we do not like to be in that situation for long. We do not know where we are going if we do not have light to guide our steps.
Jesus revealed that He came as a light into the world so that everyone who believes in Him will no live in darkness. We have spiritual darkness as well as physical darkness. If we have not accepted Christ as lord of our lives, we do not have His light in us we are still walking in darkness, without hope that can be ours only if he is there.
Through the light He gives, we are enabled to see the snares that the devil puts in our way. Without His light, we blindly stumble about. We do not see the direction that Satan is leading us unless the light of Christ reveals it.
We grow spiritually in the light of His love. Just as plants will not grow without light, we will not grow without light. The more we depend upon the light He goves, the more He leads us to do the work He has called us to do. We also need to let our light shine so that others will see this difference Christ has made in our lives. We are able to reach out to those who are walking in darkness and with the light of Christ we can also direct them to the light.
May we be the lights that He would have us be and may we encourage others to do likewise. That is what the Lord would have us do.
Jesus came into the world
To bring needed light
So that those who walk in darkness
Could have spiritual light
And He would have us shine for Him
When He comes into our life
So that others might see their need
Of His perfect sacrifice
Dear God, We praise you for the light you bring into our lives through the gift of yor son, Jesus Christ, in His name we pray, Amen.
