John Everett Dove, 84, of Riverfront Road in Martin County, Ky., closed his eyes on earth for the final time on Sunday, May 26, 2013, and opened them in a place free of suffering and pain.
Born on a cold, blustery morning on November 26, 1928 at Gray Eagle, John was the son of the late Lewis and Glamer Dove. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Ruth Imajean Dove, his brother Opie Dove, half-brother Eugene Dove and his eldest grandson, Ralph Allen Stepp II.
John was a devoted Christian who loved God with all his heart and soul. He had been a dedicated member of the Nolan Freewill Baptist Church that he loved so dear since being saved and baptized in 1960. He was a retired miner from Island Creek Coal and was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman before his physical condition began limiting his activities. He was known to his fellow church members, friends and neighbors as a quiet spoken, humble man who always extended a hand to those in need.
Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory is his wife of sixty years, Gladys Watkins Dove, daughters Pauletta Sue Dove of Williamson and Rachel Colleen (Keith) Baldwin of Hardy, Ky. and one son, Jack Lee Ray Dove, of the home. His grandchildren are Brandon (Fallon) Walker, Justin Walker and Lara (Jeremy) Miller and step-grandchildren Grace and James Baldwin. John was blessed with four little great-grandsons, Braydon, Peyton, Weston and Kingston Walker.
He is also survived by brothers Floyd (Zelda) Dove, Lowell (Goldie) Dove and Charles Hershel Dove, one sister, Alma (Zephie) Runyon, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, May 30, at 2 p.m. at the Nolan Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Taylor and Rev. Earl White officiating. Burial will follow at the residence. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening between 6 and 9 p.m. at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel at Toler, Ky., with a special service planned at 7 p.m. Family may begin gathering at 5 p.m.
Pall Bearers will be Justin Walker, Brandon Walker, Keith Baldwin, Jeremy Minor, Kelly Dove, Gary Dove, Earsel Taylor and John Taylor.
The Hatfield Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements for the Dove family.
