Panthers lose to Hillbillies in sectional opener

MAN – The Tug Valley Panthers lost to the Man Hillbillies 7-1 in Class A sectional tournament play on Thursday at Dr. Juan Nordelo Field in Man.
The Panthers only manager four hits in the game. One each by Trevin Horn, David Runyon, Tyler Estepp and Phillip Lucas. Estepp scored the only run for TVHS.
Tug Valley actually took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning, but Man went ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the 3rd frame. The home team added two more runs in both the 4th and 5th innings for their final total.
Braden Griffin led the Billies with two hits and scored two runs. Was of his hits was a double. Chris Justice, Noah Maynard, Cody Carter and Neil Mullins also banged out hits for Man.
Tug Valley hurt themselves in the field with eight errors, accounting for some of Man’s runs. The Panthers also stranded nine runners on the bases.
Cody Carter was the winning pitcher for Man, while Jordon Mounts was the hard-luck loser for the Panthers. Josh Spry and Phillip Lucas also saw action on the mound for Tug Valley.
Weather permitting, the Panthers were scheduled to play Man again on Friday in the double elimination tourney. They could also play today (Saturday), depending on the rain and field conditions.
