PAINTSVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say they seized records from the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center as part of an investigation into an inmate death and other alleged criminal activity.

Detectives from the Pikeville post say in a news release the records had been subpoenaed. The state police, the state Department of Corrections and state probation and parole officials all helped remove the records Thursday.

Detective Ben Cramer told the Lexington Herald-Leader the investigation partially involves the death of inmate Sherry McFadden on Friday. Cramer told the newspaper McFadden died at the Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center in Paintsville.

Big Sandy is a regional jail for Johnson, Martin, Magoffin and Lawrence counties and also houses state inmates.
