WILLIAMSON, W.Va - The Tug Valley Panthers capitolized on a five inning, eleven strikeout performance by pitcher Cody Varney to grab a 10 to 7 victory at Lefty Hamilton Park against the homestanding Williamson Wolfpack.
Varney pitched five solid innings, striking out eleven and surrendering but wo walks and two earned runs to keep the Panthers in the game as their offense struggled early.
The Panthers and the Wolfpack were tied 3 to 3 when Varney was lifted in the sixth inning. In fact, the Panthers were ahead 4 to 3 in entering the top of the seventh, when their hiiters tore loose, capitalizing on several walks issued by Williamson pitching and scored six runs enroute to a seven run margin of victory.
Tug Valley collected ten hits in the ball game as compared to the Wolfpack’s five. Varney was as devastaing to the ‘Pack at the plate as he was on the mound, leading the way with a three hit day ( 3 of 5) with 3 singles and 2 runs batted in. Centerfielder Dustin Marcum gained 2 hits, both singles (2 of 5). Also shortstop Garrett Adkins had two runs batted in for TVHS. 1b David Jude, 2b Chase Baisden, c Keith Perry and 3b Craig Ellis each collected one hit each.
For Williamson, pitcher Jarrid McCormick worked the first three innings, striking out five and giving up 2 walks and gave up only two earned runs.
McComick hit a double and knocked in one run, while Caleb Stacey knocked in a run with a single for the Wlfpack. Nick Lee and Bobby Hurley each collected singles in the game collected while catcher Will Hale collected a double.
Tug Valley travels to Gilbert to take on the Lions tonight while Williamson hosts the Phelps Hornets.
Gilbert 19, Burch 5
GILBERT, W.Va. - The Gilbert Lions offense exploded against the Burch Bulldogs on Tuesday night.
Josh Dingess was the winning pitcher in relief for Gilbert, pitching three innings, striking out nine and going 4 for 5 at the plate with a double and two homeuns, one being a grand slam homer.
Josh Carter went 4 for 5, Ryan Altizer went t3 for 5 and Austin Trent got two for three for Gilbert. All three of them collected all singles.
Roger Ellis, Jordan Abbot, Tabber Grinnett and Travis Hatield each collected one hit for the game.
Ryan Hafield was the losing pitcher for Burch going four innings.
Chase Crum got one hit and scored twice, Croft scored twice and got one hit. Hatfield and Runyon also collected one single each for the Bulldogs.
Gilbert hosts the Tug Valley Panthers tonight and Burch plays Tolsia at 7:30 at Lefty Hamilton park in Williamson.
