KERMIT, W,Va - The Kermit K-8 Cafeteria/Commons area was the site Saturday night of a community celebration of a highly successful year for the student-athletes of Kermit K - 8 and their fans as the school held it’s annual Blue Devils Sports Banquet.
Approximately 200 parents and community members packed the school’s cafeteria and commons area to honor the athletic programs of the school and the students who have excelled so well in them.
Master of Ceremonies for the evening was Jenny Cheung. She began the evening by presenting a video presentation featuring the different teams and their athletes and coaches in action throughout the year.
Following this, the keynote speaker of the evening, Tug Valley High School Head Boys Basketball Coach Garland “Rabbit” Thompson came forward and spoke about 15 minutes on the values of sports and the memories they leave with you, He encouraged all the young athletes to continue to excel not only in athletics, but even more so in their academic pursuits.
Boys and Girls Head Basketball Coach Okey Smith came and introduced each of his players on both the County Champion Boys team and the Girls team also. He presented them certificates and t-shirts.
Head Football Coach Tyler Hodge introduced the first ever Kermit County Football Championship team and shared memories of the season with the audience. He presented certificates to each of them.
Head Cheer Coach Trina Fitzpatrick came and presented the Middle School County Cheer Champs and presented them certificates and participation trophies.
After the invocation, dinner was served by the parents of the school, whose contributions made the awards and the meal possible.
Coach Okey Smith summed the evening up saying “It’s a good day to be a Blue Devil.”
