NAUGAUTUCK – The Tug Valley Panthers picked up another win on the diamond as they outslugged visiting Phelps 14-8 on Saturday at the TVHS field in Naugatuck.


David Runyon had three hits and four RBIs for the Panthers.


The Hornets too an early 3-0 lead, but Tug Valley scored six in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take the lead.


The Panthers of coach Jeff Varney scored two more runs in the 3rd frame, four in the 5th and two in the 6th.


Phelps was able to score at least one run in each inning except the 7th, but Tug Valley pulled out the win.


Phillip Lucas got the win on the mound, while Trevin Horn picked up the save.


Tate Compton took the loss for Phelps, while Brandon New also saw action on the mound.


Zack Avina led the Hornets with four hits and four RBIs.


Josh Cassell also had a couple of hits for the Panthers. Tug Valley also got hits from Tyler Lucas, Horn, Jordon Mounts, Josh Spry and Ryan Preece. Lucas and Horn both scored three runs, while Mounts and Lucas each came across the plate twice.


Weather permitting Tug Valley is scheduled to host St. Joe of Huntington today. They are slated to travel to Sherman on Thursday.
