LANESVILLE (AP) —A Hampshire County man is scheduled to appear in magistrate court in connection with an alleged cockfighting ring.

Robert C. Foster is scheduled to appear in Hampshire County Magistrate Court on Friday on a misdemeanor cruelty to animals charge.

The 61-year-old Foster was arrested last weekend after Hampshire County sheriff’s deputies raided his Slanesville property.

Hampshire County chief animal control officer David Gee said the action was taken after residents complained of a possible cockfighting ring in the community.

Gee said 30 people scattered when deputies arrived. More than 50 roosters were found at the site.

He said charges are pending against other individuals.
