State and federal authorities continue a manhunt for three men who escaped from an Indiana prison last Friday, and are asking authorities in neighboring states, including West Virginia, to watch for the “dangerous” criminals.

Two of the escapees, Christopher Marshall and Jerry Sargent, were assigned to the welding shop at the Branchville Correctional Facility near Tell City, Indiana, which houses about 1,350 prisoners, said Branchville Public Information Officer Nick Zellers. On Friday morning, March 20, one of the men hit the maintenance foreman in the head with a blunt object and stole pliers from his locked toolbox. The two men made their way to the fence, picking up Bobby Cockerell somewhere along the way, Zellers reported.

The men cut through two fences before escaping, Zellers said.

The maintenance worker was airlifted to the Univer-sity of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Ky., a press release from Branchville reported.

The Associated Press (AP) reported the men attacked three brothers in Northern Kentucky, stealing a dozen guns, cash and a truck. The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms issued arrest warrants on firearms charges for the three men due to the attack, and joined the hunt for the felons who were already serving 20- to 50-year sentences.

Police have been asked to watch out for the inmates in neighboring Ohio, Ind-iana, Tennessee, West Vir-ginia, Virginia and Missouri, the Associated Press reported.

Indiana Department of Corrections considers the men to be “dangerous,” and urges anyone with knowledge of their whereabouts to call local law enforcement agencies or 911.

Marshall is from Monon, Ind., and was serving a 50-year sentence for dealing cocaine.  His earliest possible release date was Jan. 05, 2021. Sergeant, from Dryer Ridge, Ky., was serving a 50-year sentence for robbery and criminal confinement and would not have been eligible for release until Jan. 7, 2023. Cockerell is from Jeffer-sonville, Ind., and was ser-ving a 20-year sentence for burglary. His earliest possible release date was March 29, 2016.

The prison reported Mar-shall, 49, is a white male, approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall, and weighing 188 pounds with green eyes and brown hair. Jerry Sar-gent, 59, is a white male, approximately 6 feet, 5 inches tall, weighs 210 pounds and has blue eyes and red hair. Bobby Cock-erell, 32, is a white male, approximately 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds, with brown eyes and hair.

Anyone spotting any of these men should not make contact, but call local law enforcement officials as soon as possible.
