Middle school All-County boys’ team released

The 2013 edition of the WDN middle school All-County team is well represented by several talented basketball players.

Kermit, the recent winner of the Mingo County middle school tournament, is represented on the first team by guards Tyler May and Bryson Preece. Both played an integral part in the Blue Devils fine season.

County runner-up Burch is represented by Jeremy Dillon and Keebo Cunningham. Both were important members of the Bulldogs successful year in both football and basketball.

Lenore, who finished in third place, is represented on the first team by Jonathan Blankenship and Chandler Pack.

Williamson is represented by point guard Aaron Banks and forward Keshean Rhodes on the first team.

Matewan is represented by Trey Hannah on this year’s first team, while Caleb Lester is Gilbert’s representative on the 10-member first team.

The All-County second team for Mingo County middle schools is Kermit’s Justin Farley and Colby Savage; Burch’ Dalton Sheppard and Chaz Farley: Lenore’s Austin Baisden; Matewan’s Thomas Harmon; and Gilbert’s Isaac Fox.

The honorable mention list consists of: Williamson’s Josh Reed and Rakeem Grey, Matewan’s Aaron Mahone, Lenore’s Dawson Elia and Malcolm Layne, and Kermit’s Brady Spaulding and Jared Farley.

The head coaches from the county’s six middle schools voted for the all-county team. The coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.

The head coaches are Ed May of Kermit, Melvin Cunningham of Burch, James Ed Baisden of Lenore, Larry Johnson of Williamson, Chad Varney of Matewan and Jared Lester of Gilbert.
