Earsel Hatfield, 64 of Phelps, Ky. passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Pikeville Medical Center.


He was born March 11, 1948 at McAndrews, Ky. the son of the late Sug and Florence Clevenger Hatfield. He was also preceded in death by infant siblings.


Earsel was a coal miner for Excell Mining and formerly worked at Babcock & Wilcox Company in Barberton, Ohio. He was a musician and loved playing the Dobro, was an avid coon hunter and was of the Church of Christ Faith.


Survivors include his loving wife, Donna Ruth Smith Hatfield of Phelps, KY; daughters, Madonna (Mark) Hatfield of Warrenton, MO, Judy (Clyde) Dotson of McCarr, KY, Trish (Jackie) Sturgeon of Raccoon, KY and Bobbie (Macky) Compton of Pikeville, KY; sister, Geraldine (Joe) Cochran of Pinsonfork, KY; brother, Sherman (Maxie) Hatfield of Elkhorn City, KY; grandchildren, Haley, Cory, August, Trey and Katie; step grandchildren, Chassidy and Alexa and a host of other family and friends.


Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 1 PM in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Werntz officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatfield Family Cemetery, McAndrews, Ky. with Max Smith, Bruce Hatfield Jr., Macky Compton, Clyde Dotson, Jackie Sturgeon, Robbie Hatfield, Joey Cochran and Earsel Bowman serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home Chapel with special services at 7 PM with Joe Horne officiating. R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry is in charge of arrangements.
