Gertrude Blackburn, 87, of Pinsonfork, Ky., passed away Saturday February 16, 2013, at her residence.
She was born May 3, 1925, at Pike County, Ky., the daughter of the late William Jefferson and Nancy Ball May.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willie Estil Blackburn; brothers, William Jefferson May Sr., Willard May, Rarry May, Kelly May, Walter May and Bud May; and sisters, Maude Gent and Pricey Stanley.
Gertrude was a retired cook from the Pike County Board of Education and a member of the Little Hope Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include her foster son, Robert (Brenda J.) Varney of Hager Hill, Ky.; brother, Harold May of Canada, Ky.; sisters, Jeanette May and Ruth May Blackburn both of Pinsonfork, Ky.; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the R. E. Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Raymond Stanley, Frank Ball and Michael Elswick officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackburn Family Cemetery, Pinsonfork, Ky., with Christopher Williamson, Shawn Blackburn, Darren Varney and Hank Varney serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Funeral Home Chapel with special services both nights at 7 p.m.
