Carl Bruce Akers, 56, of Matewan, passed away Wednesday February 13, 2013, at his residence.


He was born May 21, 1956 in Pike County, Ky., to the late William Frank Akers and Minnie York Akers.


He was also preceded in death by two brothers,Billy Ray Akers and James Monroe Akers.


He was a disabled county mainteance worker.


He is survived by one daughter, Carla Michelle (Aliff) Akers of McVeigh, Ky.; three sons, David Keith Akers of Hardy, Ky., Carl Bruce Akers Jr. of Mt. Sterling, Ky. and Derrick Shane Akers of Matewan; brothers and sisters, Minnie (May) Akers, Frank Akers Jr., Donnie Gene Akers, Clara (Queen) Akers, Estil Paul Akers, Ronnie Gene Akers, Roger Lee Akers, Michael Eugene Akers and Kathy (Hatfield) Akers and nine grandchildren.


Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Friday February 15, at R. E. Rogers Funeral Home with Shawn Ward officiating. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home. R. E. Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.
