Barry Kent Harmon, a lifelong resident of Williamson, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. He was 60.

Born on March 16, 1952, in Williamson, he was the only child of the late Edith Maxine Beckett Olaker and Ralph E. Olaker.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Silas and Flora Beckett and his aunts and uncles, Grace Brinkley, Charlie R. Beckett, Jack Beckett, Vernon Beckett, Cecil Beckett, Nancy Elia, Betty Cahunte, Earl Beckett and Bobby Beckett.

Barry was a graduate of Williamson High School. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Williamson Fire Department while still in high school and eventually became a full time firefighter. He was also employed with Norfolk Southern Railroad for a number of years.

Barry was an avid sports fan. He devotedly followed Williamson High School athletics and the West Virginia University Mountaineers.

Barry faithfully attended Williamson High School athletic events and supported student athletes throughout his lifetime. He seemed to know and greet every person who walked through the doors of the Williamson Memorial Fieldhouse and through the gate at Lefty Hamilton Park. Whether on the road or at home, the game never really seemed to get under way until Barry arrived. He was sincerely proud to be part of the rich Wolfpack tradition.

Barry was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of the East Williamson Baptist Church.

Barry will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by everyone who had the good fortune of knowing him.

Barry is survived by an uncle, Butch (Odesssa) Beckett of Williamson, a host of beloved cousins and many dear friends.

Visitation is from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm, on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the East Williamson Baptist Church. The Reverend Bob Norman will officiate.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Friday, February 15, 2013, at the church.

Interment is in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV. Firefighters with the Williamson Fire Department will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Williamson High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
