Douglas M. Perkins age 73, of Red Jacket, W.Va., graduated from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Friday February 8, 2013, at the Williamson, W.Va. Memorial Hospital.

A son of the late Raymond and Sarah Whaley Perkins, Doug, was born on February 25, 1939, at North Matewan, W.Va.

Those that precede him in death in addition to his parents include his brothers James, Charles, Ronnie, and Curtis, and a sister Brenda Barger.

Doug was a United States Army Veteran and was proud of his service to his country. Doug worked in Columbus, Ohio, for Westinghouse and upon his retirement from this company he returned home to begin working in the coal mines where he later retired and became an active member and proudly served in the UMWA Local #1440. Doug was also a member of the North Matewan First Assembly of God where he participated in various departments of the church. If a job needed to be done or if assistance was needed in getting the job accomplished, Doug, was willing to lend a helping hand. His most favored accomplishment was his family and community of friends. Doug was not only a loving but a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

Those left to share his memory and mourn his passing include his loving wife Linda Hardesty Perkins, son Doug (Valerie) Perkins; Daughters Karen (Derrick) Christian and Leisha Perkins; Grandchildren Kristie Kennedy, Ryan Perkins, Shayla Justice, Derrick Christian, Brittany Perkins, Keri-Lynn Pope, Paula Bench, Harold May, Andrew Blankenship, Summer Perkins, Haylee New and Kadie-Jo Perkins; Great Grandchildren Brenden Kennedy, Keagun Kennedy, Kinley Cooper, Sophia Justice, Anna Elkins, Lil Brian Elkins, Alex Elkins, Sabastian Varney, Isabella Bench, Shawn Bench, and Hannah Edwards; Brothers Randal Joe Perkins of Columbus, Ohio, Bill (Jeanette) Perkins of New Jersey, Danny Frank Perkins of Columbus, Ohio, and Keith (Anette) Perkins of Vienna, Ohio; Sisters Linda Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Sue (Richard) Sierz of Michigan, Barbara (Joe) Kennedy of Ohio, Shiela (John) McDonald of Ohio, Betty Keller of Columbus, Ohio, and Mable Marie Estepp of Columbus, Ohio.

Doug is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones and a community of friends and also his special friend whom he loved as his very own daughter Marsha Lockard.

Services honoring the life of Doug will be conducted on Tuesday February 12, 2013, at 1:00 p.m., from the North Matewan First Assembly of God with the Revs. Lowell Sparks, Dallas Rife, and Richard Robinette officiating; burial will then follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens of Maher, W.Va., with graveside military rites being performed by Belfry Chapter #141 of the Disabled American Veterans.

Pallbearers will include Ivan Lee, Michael Scales, Shawn Bench, Harold May, Dwayne Cooper, and Tony Ross.

Honorary Pallbearers will include Kenny Varney, Harold Lockard, Hugh Colangelo, Walter Hardesty, Roger Hardesty, and Russell Hardesty, and Team Mingo will also serve as distinguished honorary pallbearers.

The family will begin receiving friends for an evening of fellowship and remembrance Monday February 11, 2013, at the church beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Chambers Funeral Services, Inc., of Matewan, W.Va.
