The dates for the upcoming Mingo County girl’s middle school tournament has been changed.

Gilbert Middle School is the host for the tournaments this year.

The gals will have their tournament on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday – February 6, 8 and 9.

The girls semi-finals was moved from Thursday to Friday because of a conflict with the Mingo Central girls game that was rescheduled on Thursday. So they will now play the final four on Friday evening.

The tournament seeding were still not known because one more regular season game has to be played tonight between Gilbert and Kermit. That outcome will have a lot of bearing on the girls pairings. The game was postponed from last Thursday and originally slated for Monday night, but with school canceled and many rural roads still icy, it was moved to tonight.

The boys event will be held the next week Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday – February 13, 14 and 16.

Both tournaments will be held at Mingo Central High School.

A consolation and championship game will be played on each Saturday. Awards will be handed out after the final game.

The pairings will be announced for the girls later this week, while the boy’s pairings will be announced this weekend.

The tourney is setup according to the regular season records within the county.

For example, No. 3 plays No. 6, and No. 4 take on No. 5 in the first round. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds get a first round bye.

The semi-finals will see the winner of game one playing the top seed, while the No. 2 seed plays the winner of the game between 3rd and 4th seeded game.

The games on the first two nights will start a 6:00 p.m., with the second game starting at approximately 20 minutes after the first game.

On championship Saturday, the consolation game will start at 11 a.m., while the championship game will begin at around 12:45 p.m.
