CHARLESTON - All three No. 1 teams held on to their top spots as the boy’s basketball rankings were released earlier this week. One local team is just outside the No. 1 spot.

Tug Valley holds on to the No. 2 spot in Class A. The Panthers, who won the Class AA title last year, moved down to Class A this season.

South Charleston, Bluefield and Charleston Catholic remain at No. 1 in Class AAA, AA, and A, respectively, with the Beavers and Irish making their third straight appearance in the top spot.

Tug Valley was 2-1 last week. Their only loss was on a controversial last second shot by Class AAA Greenbrier East in a game played at Willie Akers Arena.

Tucker County came in at No. 3 in Class A, while Buffalo moved up a spot to No. 6. Parkersburg Catholic comes in at No. 4 and Magnolia, who had been No. 1 earlier in the season, is now No. 5.

In Class AA, several regional teams are ranked. Wyoming East comes in at No. 3 this week, while Tolsia is No. 7, Westside and Scott are tied for the 8th spot.

Surprising Poca is ranked No. 2 behind Bluefield. Poca and Scott are Cardinal Conference opponents for Mingo Central.

In Class AAA, Martinsburg moved back ahead of Morgantown for the No. 2 spot while George Washington was No. 9. Poca held on to No. 2 in Class AA followed by No. 3 Wyoming East.
