The Kermit and Williamson Middle School boys and girls basketball teams split a doubleheader Thursday night at the WMS gym.

In the first game the Lady Cubpack of Williamson defeated the Lady Blue Devils of Kermit 23 to 18.

M. Rhodes led WMS with eight points, while T. Joplin and M. Pinson each scored six, Bekka White added a basket and Ashley Blackburn had one point.

For Kermit T. Parsley had seven, K. Brewer 4, K. Spaulding 3, S. Whitt 2 and S. Fitzpatrick 2.

Williamson will now play at Lenore on Monday. Coach Julius “Boo” Hatcher’s squad is getting ready for the upcoming Mingo County tournament which will be held February 6, 7 and 9.

In the nightcap, the Kermit boys got balanced scoring as Tyler May, Bryson Preece and Colby Savage each scored 11 points in a 43-28 victory. Justin Farley chipped in eight and Jared Farley 2 points for coach Ed May.

For Williamson Aaron Banks and Keshean Rhodes each scores seven points, while Leonard Young had six, Spencer Stogsdill and Josh Reed 3 each and Wes Milum 2. Coach Giddle Johnson’s team will travel to Lenore on Monday night. They now have a record of 6-7.

Kermit is now 13-2 and will travel to Matewan Monday night.

The Mingo County boy’s tournament will be held February13, 14 and 16 at Mingo Central High School.
