Section of Martin Co. road falls away

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A portion of a road in Martin County isn’t there anymore.

According to Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Shaun Little, approximately 100 feet of roadway on Route 40 between the 0 and 1 mile markers has fallen away.

The Department of Transportation stated that the affected section of Route 40 is now down to one lane and that a traffic signal has been installed. The DoT has also stated that roadwork would be periodic road closures would begin on Jan. 21 and that roadwork would be completed by Jan. 25.

The KSP asks motorists to use caution when traveling on this section of Route 40.
