Phillip Carrington Mitchell, 66, of Red Jacket, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was born November 22, 1946, at Alexandria, Va., to his late stepfather, Harry Chafin, and mother, Nell Mitchell Chafin.
In addition to his mother and stepfather, Phillip is preceded in death by his sister, Trish Chafin.
Phillip was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force, he was also a retired educator having played a vital role in all areas of sports as a coach and he enjoyed being involved with the students he taught. Phillip was an active member of the Red Jacket Community Church having served in various departments of the church.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Ann Radford Mitchell of Red Jacket; sons, Phillip Nathaniel and Nicholas Carrington Mitchell; and brothers, Rod and John Bill Chafin;
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 17, at 11 a.m. at Chambers Funeral Services Chapel with Bro. Dallas Rife officiating. Burial will follow at Mitchell-Chafin Cemetery of Newtown. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will begin receiving friends on Wednesday, January 16, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
